Let’s see what Tecmo Koei thinks a souls game is li-JESUS CHRIST THIS GAME IS HARD.

That first boss wasn’t so bad, though I had higher stats + better weapons & armour. The game is really hard, but I wouldn’t say it’s unreasonably hard like Pat.

I was waiting for this video, I want to see Patron 4000 vs. Nioh. Being a huge fan of Feudal Japan and challenging fast paced combat, I was practically addicted to the alpha demo, it’s one of the very few games that made me feel like I was just one or two mistakes away from death at any time and made the Souls series feel even more easy to me.
Shutting up now, I’m a little too hyped.

Yeah, despite it being so similar you really have to unlearn the Souls approach to get going in Nioh. It actually takes me back to the initial release of Demon’s Souls, when nobody had this stuff figured out yet.

I don’t know. A little harder than souls, sure, but not anywhere near as hard as they made it out to be in the end. The second boss has a lot of HP, I’ll give them that, but his attacks are so easy to avoid after you’ve seen them. Tracking lightning, just walk (maybe even under the bell). Lightning mouth ray, just dodge out of range, or dodge towards and to the side if you want to get a hit in. Rolling attack, just walk out of the path, it’s straight. They all have a lot of startup and you can get hits in after all of them. I just can’t understand why Liam thinks Nue is so difficult, he’s way better at games than me.
I do love how much technique there is in this game, watching skilled players who’ve mastered it will be fun. From little things like dashing to shorten a burn dot on yourself to bigger things like having dodge execute ki pulse in low stance and finishers do the same in high stance.
By the way, the second bar for yokai is their stamina, it works a little bit differently than for humans. You whittle it down till it’s empty, which can take a while for bigger enemies, and when it goes red every hit staggers them. That’s what it seems to be at least.
