God, I forgot how often Tidus is hungry in this game. Everyone you know and love has been dead for a thousand years, all that’s left of your society is ruins, a name and a “touchdown” gesture and giant cthulhu-esque monsters are real AND out to get you but fuck all that. WHERE’S THE FOOD!?

Is it bad I sang along to Shania? NO. And in the Japanese voice of Titus, his voice cracks when he says luCa

The tropical thing is definitely what I think about when I think FFX as well. While the actual levels were definitely a bit hallway-ish, but they were well designed ones in a world that nevertheless felt fresh, varied, and beautiful. The art design in this game has aged extremely well, to the point where this still looks pretty amazing even if the character animation looks dated (I love the parts where the character models turn by spinning around as if they were on a turntable). I actually played through the original PS2 game for the first time about the time the HD remaster came out. Lost Odyssey even had the hallway thing going on, but still felt like a full scale game. Plus both of those games had towns.
Meanwhile, I think the series has lost its way both from a visual and game design standpoint. For as cool as FFXII’s characters looked, I think of deserts and drab brown environments in that game. FFXIII’s hallway-esque environments were as blatantly a video game with limited scope and imagination as could be. Lack of towns, poor structuring of storytelling (Mass Effect had a lot of lore stuff too, but you could still feel like you were in a fleshed out world without reading the lore in the menus).
However, all that aside, FFX does have some stupid looking characters and really corny stuff going on in it. The growing pains were showing from going from the goofier earlier games (that had a lot of cartoony humor with the chibi sprites) to the more realistic designs from the PS1 games and later. However, I still felt it retained a lot of charm in the process. However, I think I jumped off when FF X-2 just was way too dumb for me to stand.

Wakka: can throw a Blitzball hard enough a kill a man, hasn’t won a game in ten years….

Maybe that’s why they’ve never won. Every year they get disqualified because Wakka killed someone.

I don’t think that’s so confusing. Aside from the fact how hard his throws a ball isn’t the be-all, end-all, it also seems the rest of his team really, really sucks.
