I know what you mean.
September 25, 2014 at 4:03 am
Your user name’s fucking awesome
September 23, 2014 at 9:17 pm
This is too hype to worry about spelling.
September 23, 2014 at 9:07 pm
Love is a precious thing. Cherish every moment.
September 23, 2014 at 9:30 pm
love your love like kenny loves boats
September 23, 2014 at 9:59 pm
That’s possible…Kenny really loves boats. He sacrificed his family to the boat god.
I meant impossible…
September 23, 2014 at 9:31 pm
I vote Woolie no longer be allowed to use that R1 attack until he learns to use it properly. I’m gettin’ real sick of the: Wall to the right so the sword’ll just clang off uselessly? R1. Shield on their left so there will be little to no damage? R1.
September 23, 2014 at 9:34 pm
Agggh what a cliffhangar!
September 23, 2014 at 9:41 pm
Woolie should try rolling!
September 23, 2014 at 9:48 pm
Fuck, it always ends when it’s getting good!
September 23, 2014 at 9:51 pm
Over-using the stamina bar will get you killed aha
September 23, 2014 at 9:55 pm
Oh wait, you can break the pyromancers’ graves? Did not know that…still managed to get everything in that area though. As for Veldstat, I feel like that running overhead is the main reason to be VERY carefull of when you decide to use estus.
September 23, 2014 at 9:58 pm
Aegis is pronounced like Regis. With Greek words that have AE in them, drop your A. Know what I mean?
September 23, 2014 at 10:20 pm
I feel like pat needs to explain why vendrick has done all this at some point, since he has mostly just said, “yah the kings a shitbag” when really he did all this just to fuck over nashandra
September 23, 2014 at 10:39 pm
Woolie did better that I thought he would on his first go against Veldstat
September 23, 2014 at 11:31 pm
I expected Woolie was going to get his ass handed to him in his first bout with Velstadt. He did pretty good, though, so I imagine he will get the job done the second time.
September 23, 2014 at 11:39 pm
Omg, within 2 minutes and he gets a super rare drop from that sorceress… fml, +2 dark quarts is so good and I don’t have it on my main, cause i dont bother to farm sometimes. Wools is gonna need some dark resist (and poison) if he wants to get through the first dlc.
September 24, 2014 at 1:42 am
I got a Dark Quartz +2 the first time I made it to the Crypt during NG+ (so, second time in the Crypt). I then got two more in NG++.
With no Item Discovery gear, or Rusted Coin.
They’re not as rare as you think.
September 24, 2014 at 12:08 am
WOOOOOOOOLS! LERN DEM I-FRAMES BRO!! Good effort on velstadt!
September 24, 2014 at 1:04 am
Velstadt’s Soul has a description that is something along the lines of him being the King’s shadow or shadowing the King at all times, which would explain why he uses dark and casts hexes.
Hey Pat! If you decide to read the comments on this awesome website of yours I want you to know two things!
#1: Upgrade the Great Club it does a severe amount of damage to armored enemies, much more than the mace.
#2 Make sure Woolie takes on the Throne Defender and Watcher before going through the whole Aldia song and dance, trust me, there’ll be more plot that way.
P.S. Her name is Shanalotte, she’ll tell you when you’ve done things right.
September 24, 2014 at 4:32 pm
His soul reads “Velstadt was always at the King’s side, as if he were his lord’s own shadow.” his armor seems to point that extended time in the crypt has made him dark infused “Armor worn by the Royal Aegis.
Originally imbued with the power of miracles, now soaked with dark after extended exposure in the Undead Crypt. A knight from a faraway land was lured to this accursed land, but forgot even why he came,
eventually reduced to a shadow of his former self.”
September 24, 2014 at 1:27 am
More cool weapons that Pat won’t let Woolie use.
September 24, 2014 at 1:39 am
Defender’s Shield isn’t the best overall medium shield. It’s fucking not. Dark Drakekeeper’s Shield +10 is PROVEN to be the go-to for E-Z-P-Z Mode. If you want the best 100% Physical Damage Reduction medium shield, I still say Drakekeeper’s +10. The only thing Defender’s has on Drakekeeper’s is 5 extra points of Stability, which, in my opinion, mean very little. Blocking with a medium shield should not be a higher priority to rolling. Now, you could argue that, because rolling should take a higher priority, having more Stability would be a better choice. Nope.
Most of the time I’ve been had my guard broken by normal enemies, they either didn’t act at all (From B AI is best AI), or I took, at most, half my Health in damage. Turtle engage, Estus up, Health to max, re-engage weapons. When my guard is broken by a boss, I either get another visit from the From B AI, and they usually back off like idiots, or, again, I take at most half my Health in damage.
When comparing shields that have 100% Physical Damage Reduction, you don’t just look at Stability and go “THIS ONE HAS MORE. IT’S BETTER.” Drakekeeper’s +10 beats Defender’s +5 in EVERY resistance (Poison and Bleed included, check the wikis if you don’t believe me). No, fuck it, if you’re actually reading this Pat (which I kind of doubt you will), here’s the stats of Drakekeeper’s +10 (left) vs. Defender’s +5 (right) anyway:
Physical: 100% vs. 100%
Magic: 73.7% vs. 73.7%
Fire: 73.7% vs. 64.0%
Lightning: 73.7% vs. 69.3%
Dark: 58.7% vs. 56.2%
Petrify: 73.7% vs. 47.5%
Curse: 73.7% vs. 47.5%
Poison: 73.7% vs. 47.5%
Bleed: 73.7% vs. 47.5%
Stability: 63 vs. 68
Dark Drakekeeper’s Shield +10 lowers the Physical to 98.2%, and the other resistances (barring Dark) to 72.0%, but increases the Dark from 58.7% to an astounding 72.5%. A worthwhile investment.
Pretty similar in the elemental resistances, and they both block 100% of Physical Damage, but there’s no way you can sit there and say that Defender’s is “the best”, when all it brings to the table is 5 Stability. Oh, and don’t please don’t say the difference in resistances is negligible, because the difference in Stability is as well. And for that comment (again, calling it “the best”), I shall not add your “to my knowledge” to the end of it, since you apparently did “testing”.
(I’m quite miffed with you right now, Pat. Quite miffed indeed, old bean. Kenny-hating coming out the Wahzoo, Reggie-hating because REASONS, AND this? Tsk-tsk)
I believe the Leydia Pyromancers are ghostly is their punishment for what they did in the Crypt (fucking with…either dead or Undead, idk). Those wall ghosts are most likely just there because REASONS.
There really weren’t a lot dual-shield gimmick builds in Dark I, because they weren’t builds. They were just people going “fuck it, I’m bored.” Orma’s and Reeve’s. I know you’ve probably already looked up the names. But still. My corrective self needs me to do this. And the Imperious Knights (their name) aren’t there to protect the king. They’re basically thralls (to whom, I do not know), forced to stay in the Crypt as punishment.
All of the Hollows that spawn in that area can ring the bells, actually. And you can (when the statues are still intact), as well. I’ve done “testing” (now I’m just being salty).
You can farm the 30 Sunlight Medals required for rank 3 in Heirs of the Sun from either the Banediggers (the giant dudes being used as mounts by some average-sized Hollows that shoot DARKNESS) in Harvest Valley, or from Volgen Falconers (first guys you fight in NG+) in Things Betwixt. Now, this may not sound better compared to doing the coop, but if you’re at 20-something-million Soul Memory, and the current DLC is basically your only choice for coop, you’ll farm. It’s abysmal, but to me, it was actually way better to farm than to do coop. Did the same thing with the Berserker dude in Belfry Sol to get Bell-Bongers to rank 2.
I still don’t like the “having a large amount of souls makes you physically large” thing. Why the fuck is my character not large then? Why am I not HUUUUUUUUGE!? Do I have to amass said large amount of souls and hold them for a large amount of time? It just doesn’t make sense.
The reason Velstadt is rife with Dark is because he’s been sitting in the Crypt for who-knows-how-long. Notice though, that he’s actually kneeling in the only light in the room. Even though he’s long since become corrupted (I’m going with that as my theory) by the Dark, he’s still a warrior of the light, sworn to serve his king.
Lastly, Woolie, you have a greatshield. Use it more. Please. It’s GREAT, I swear. You can literally sit there and laugh at a good chunk of the enemies in this game as they hit your shield and their puny little weapons bounce off. What I’m trying to say is “roll less, block more.” Unless it’s a boss. Then I’ll leave you to judge what you need to do.
(God, I should just write one long-ass letter and mail it, or even a fucking novel. These are getting long…)
September 24, 2014 at 1:49 am
holy shit dude enough
the comment section isn’t for writing essays
September 24, 2014 at 1:56 am
I have nothing better to do with my life.
You could also just move on, y’know. That’s a thing.
I may have an entire page of the comments to myself (which, believe me, I regret), but there is a NEXT button for a reason.
With that, I bid you good day, and that I shan’t be stopping with the overly-long comments anytime soon (unless they get deleted. Then I guess I’ll be stopping then).
September 24, 2014 at 1:53 am
“I’ve been had my guard broken…”
“I believe the Leydia Pyromancers are ghostly is their punishment…”
Man, making a typo on this site sucks :l
Can’t edit it…
Unfortunate +1 to Youtube for editing.
Oh, and half my Health in damage refers to half my Health when at 100% (as opposed to being in Hollow Health mode), with Third Dragon Ring and occasionally Life Ring +3 (actually gives a decent amount. Thanks, From).
And I guess, technically, Drakekeeper’s Shield isn’t better in EVERY stat, considering it and Defender’s both have 73.7% Magic Damage Reduction. Again, typos, uneditable, it’s almost 2:00 AM, I don’t feel like proofreading.
September 24, 2014 at 5:13 am
Geeze what a baby. SUCH NITPICKING. So bored of people shitting on Pat’s interpretation of the lore. So what if it a tad misinformed? If people care than they’ll have fun looking it up or informing themselves and having Pat as a jump off point. If they don’t care and like Pats yammering on interesting lore, then whatever!
So minuscule are your complaints. You’re doing the exact thing that Pat does that everyone happens to hate, have an opinion on how to do something. Your providing a ton of different suggestions on how something can be done and your reasoning for it, do you want Pat to shout “IMHO” before you realize that’s he not being a malicious dirtbag and only has an opinion based on experience? Who cares if it not exactly how yours was!
Your long comment is a target for my own, everyone comments about the same, but the fact that I can easily imagine you sitting and brooding over an opinion on minuscule data points makes it all the beater that it took me so little time and less popped blood vessels to write mine.
It bother me that he takes comments like yours to heart.
September 24, 2014 at 4:27 pm
What’s it like to not just enjoy a video and have to nit-pick everything? If playing the game “correctly” is so important to you why don’t you just play it yourself?
September 24, 2014 at 4:41 pm
Jeez bud I agree Drakekeeper’s is a better normal shield but Defender’s is a great shield as well and in my opinion looks a lot better. I always use Tower Shield over all the better options because it looks cool, higher stability (Which 5 points is actually quite noticeable) and lower weight. Magic, Dark, Fire and Lightning I tend to roll away from anyways while bleed, poison, and curse are negligible.
September 25, 2014 at 12:20 am
If anyone (Pat included) reads this, I just want to apologize for my over-the-top salt in that essay above. It was about 1:30 AM (my beddy-bye time is a surprisingly-babby-ish 2:00-2:30), I was kind of tired, and hearing that the Defender’s Shield was the best medium shield (it’s not though, Pat. It’s just not 😛 ) set me off for some stupid reason. Reading the responses I got made me feel like shit (in a good way), and again, I apologize. Way out of line, [probably] won’t happen again.
September 24, 2014 at 2:38 am
What todays Patt Fact?
September 24, 2014 at 3:03 am
Woolie stop rolling away, please stop rolling away. Woolie, side+toward. Woolie, woolie pls
September 24, 2014 at 7:04 am
Sometimes, it feels like DS II is in league with Shovel Knight on character design.
You’ve got Bell Knight (Velstadt), Looking Glass Knight, Fume Knight, Gravity/Float Knight (Pursuer), Smelter Knight (Smelter Demon), and so on.
September 24, 2014 at 7:31 am
There seems to be a strong theme of bells and guarding being related.
September 24, 2014 at 10:39 am
Woolie, I will not talk shit about your skills, because you are actually doing pretty good for a first time through a Souls game. That being said, every time you swing your mighty sword from 2.5 km away from an enemy and directly into the floor, my heart dies a little bit more. I just want you to live, man. And Pat, I don’t care if it is partially bullshit, I like your lore.
September 24, 2014 at 4:33 pm
Licia of Lindeldt is not the Nameless Usurper. They have the same armor set, but are different models, use different weapons, and if you kill Licia you still can get invaded by the Nameless Usurper.
I love how the wall ghosts have the same death noise as the ghosts from New Londo Ruins in the first game =)
September 24, 2014 at 8:37 pm
Will Woolie never realize that Mimic Chests are identified by locks? If they chests have no locks on them, they’re all good(unless they’re trapped)!
September 24, 2014 at 9:47 pm
Oi! Use that damn strike damaging mace against armored foes, it’ll do ya good!
